Recently discovered brands that I'm loving

Sharing some recent brand discoveries.

Who:

A Emery

What:

An Australian footwear brand founded in 2017.

Why I love this brand:

The pieces are timeless and classic. All of the styles are minimal, but not boring, so they will be easy to style with summer dresses, shirts and shorts. Summer sandals aren’t something I buy a lot of, so for the few that I have I want them to be great quality and A Emery sandals look like they’re exactly that.

Favourite item:

The Jalen sandals are a relatively new style and they’re beautiful. They have wide flat straps which will add to the comfort-level. I find that although thin strap gladiator sandals can look great, they often end up cutting into your feet as they swell in the summer heat. I’m all about comfort. These sandals also have straps that cross at the ankle in a flattering way. Ankle straps also have the added benefit of securing the sandals to your feet so you avoid the dreaded sandal flying off your foot situation when you’re walking fast. The only issue I have with the Jalen sandals is deciding which colour to get, they come in four different colours and I love them all. Prices start from £110.

Who:

Skall Studio

What:

A Danish fashion and lifestyle brand founded in 2014.

Why I love this brand:

This brand is simple Scandinavian style at it’s best. Not only is this brand female and family-founded, it is also a conscious fashion business. Skall Studio use natural materials in their clothing and their pieces are made with environmental care via a socially responsible supply chain. They also sell children’s clothing, bedding and homewares.

Favourite item:

You can’t go wrong with a simple black dress and the Cosmos shirt dress is very good. It’s a 100% organic cotton voile long-sleeved shirt dress with contrasting white buttons. This dress will work well on different body types and heights. Whether you style the dress with flip flops or chunky loafers, you look very chic. Prices start from £15 for homeware and £45 for womens clothing.

Who:

Elisa Johnson

What:

A U.S. eyewear brand founded in 2017.

Why I love this brand:

All of the sunglasses are a perfect style combination of classic, street and luxury. All the styles are designed by the brands namesake. Elisa Johnson is also a Black-owned brand, which I’m a huge supporter of. I also just found out that Elisa Johnson is the daughter of basketball legend Magic Johnson - the surname is a bit of a clue. Anyway I digress; there is a sunglasses style for everyone whether you’re into a classic aviator or a vintage-inspired oversized style.

Favourite item:

I was initially drawn to the Jane sunglasses in light brown but I settled on the Cookie sunglasses in gloss black as they nicely fill a gap in my sunglasses collection (of four). They have a slight cat-eye shape and are incredibly chic. I bought my sunglasses last month and love them. They’re really comfortable to wear as they’re not too heavy so, unlike some of my other sunglasses, don’t hurt the bridge of my nose after wearing them for a while. The branding is also very subtle which is a nice touch. Prices start from £88. If you are in the UK import and shipping will add an extra £40 to the cost.

Hopefully you’ve been introduced to some new brands that you can support. Let me know if you've discovered any new brands recently.

On another note and in case you missed it, in March I had the honour of being commissioned to write a piece for one of the UK’s most trusted blogs and one of my favourites - The Frugality. My post is all about my love for black trousers and how you can wear them all year round. Check it out.
